Case study:
Skedulo
The purpose of Skedulo’s Vax project was to develop booking and appointment software for vaccination scheduling.
Much like Elephant (see 🦠 Elephant Healthcare COVID response ) COVID-19 presented Skedulo with a huge challenge and opportunity. Their Vax product was still new, but they were getting a lot of attention. A large consultancy firm had engaged with them to help deliver vaccines to various states in the US, Canada, Australia & New Zealand.
Skedulo had a team in Brisbane & Vietnam, but they were at capacity and needed help supporting their North American governmental clients. They were finding it challenging to hire during COVID, when many large tech companies were offering inflated salaries for engineers - and Doubly Good provided additional engineering resources and support during a crucial period of growth for the company.
On top of this, each customer needed to have a bespoke implementation of the service. To meet the speed of development required, plus help support the increasing need for Vax in the US, a follow-the-sun team was required.
Follow-the-sun is a challenging way of working, but can be rewarding if handled well. At first, Skedulo were having difficulty in retaining developers in the UK due to the incredible challenge of timezones and working at pace. Doubly Good stepped into the breach, and was able to complete the circle. We provided the ‘missing timezone’ that could liaise with Australia at the start of the day, and the US at the end.
We supported Skedulo for 12 months with plugging gaps, fixing bugs and providing liaison with North America. Skedulo knew that they had to move to a more sustainable way of working. At this point, Doubly Good helped them train and transition to a new permanent UK/US engineering support team.
In mid 2021 Skedulo secured a series C funding round, and were growing really really fast. Doubly Good provided and managed a nearshore team that accelerated development of a crucial piece of the Skedulo core product, giving the main team enough breathing space to manage their growth and create a permanent team based in the EU.
